Synopsis

The story describes a young secretary's struggle with her predecessor, who was communicating through an electric typewriter. At 17, Lucy Beck from a poor family wants a job to move away from her mother. Her mother is much too nice for her own good and her mother's brother, Uncle Bert, is a heavy drinker. When she graduated from the Belmont Secretarial College, things did not look good. For one, she was always at the bottom of her class and her usually upbeat principal, Mrs Price, did not hold out much hope on her being successful at a job. However, Lucy lands a job as a secretary at Ross and Banister's. On her first day, she realizes that the position comes with some baggage. This is the ghost of a previous long-time secretary, Miss Broome. She is around to haunt her electric typewriter. Only Harry Darke knows about this and he hints it to Lucy. At first, no matter what she tries to type, Lucy cannot finish her work because the letters 'QWERTYUIOP' keep popping up on the paper. When she finally realizes that she is powerless to complete her work, Lucy reconciles with Miss Broome's spirit. This was done by pacifying it and enabling it to realize the fruitlessness of its actions. By doing so, Lucy also reaches a new understanding of her relationship with Uncle Bert.

It would be more interesting if your understanding about the story is reinforced by a video. Enjoy watching  !!! :)
